David James is performing:
David James, 8PM, Saturday, March 12, 2011, the Saturday before Paddy's Day My real focus of the day will be at the Box Factory for the Arts, 1101 Broad St., Saint Joseph, MI, 49085, for a St. Patrick's Day sing along. The show starts at 8PM. I am a three-time All-Ireland Champion, a US National Champion on the hammered dulcimer, and well-known in the Midwest as a fiddler and fiddle teacher. You'll hear me on these two instruments on Paddy's Day, and in addition a bunch of other ones like concertina, bodhr‡n and the auld banjo. I'll have words on a projector screen for some of your Irish and Irish-American sing-along favorites, and introduce you to some great new ones. In addition to playing a whole mess of traditional songs and tunes, I'll show you what makes up an Irish tune "tick," so the listening experience will be even sharper. Finish out the night primed for more song and "craic" at one of the area pub venues. David will have a list of Irish events in the region so you can continue the fun 'til the wee hours. David James and, hopefully, some friends. W ednesday, March 30 (2011), 7:00PM, Fund Raiser--all proceeds (donations at the door) go to help students participate in Freedom Summer 2011. Location: Wiekamp Hall, 1700 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend, IN, 46634. This is dangerous stuff! you might come away singing a song that got someone killed or put in jail in times not too long past: I'll do the PowerPoint thing, and put up some great civil rights and movement songs up for everyone to sing.
